The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey

01 - Be Proactive:

You are not "who you are" because of your genetics, how you were raised, or your environment.

These factors are our conditioning, but you are not your conditioning.

Who we are and how we act is a function of our decisions / our responses.

Between stimulus & response = the ability and power to choose.

In that gap, in that choice, you choose who you are.

02 - Begin with the end:

Truly know the future you want to create.

Be convicted to that future.

Then commit to your convictions, constantly.

It is in each micro moment (in the now) that your future is made.

03 - Put first things first:

"Most people are bad at discipline because they are bad at priorities."

Do not prioritize what's on your schedule. Schedule your priorities.

04 - Think Win-Win:

Approach life and relationships with an abundance mindset.

Look for solutions where everyone can benefit, not just you.

05 - Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood:

What is there to learn by speaking your autobiography in every moment you get?

Actively listen. You will expand through understanding others as they are.

(Not to be mistaken with understanding others as you are, as you see them).

06 - Synergize:

Value the skills and perspectives of those around you.

1 + 1 = 3. By working with others, you can achieve more than you ever could alone.

*side note: this may be some of my favorite writing on life partnerships

07 - Sharpen the Saw:

You are interconnected; spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

It's imperative to invest in the expansion of each of these categories, constantly.

This is your foundation. You cannot build a skyscraper on a shaky foundation.
